STYE


Introduction
It is a Suppurative inflammation of the follicle of the eyelash including the glands of zies.
These are small boils on the glands that lubricate eyelashes. Since they don't affect the eye itself, eyesight is not affected.


Causative agent

Coagulase positive staphylococcus

Symptoms:
There is acute pain in the lid margin with a sense of heaviness and heat.
Signs:
. Swelling, redness, and marked edema of the affected lid.
. Marked tenderness at the point of inflammation on the lid margin
. Redness of the conjunctiva may occur
. Finally a white pus point becomes visible on the lid margin in relation to the root of the cilia (hair follicle which is affected).
. Enlargement of the peri auricular lymph node

Course:
The pus point bursts outside and pain swelling subsides.

Do's and Don'ts:
. Apply warm application at least 3-4 times a day.
. Wash your eyes regularly.
. A diet of raw fruits, vegetables, fruits juices will increase resistance.
. Do not share wash cloth or towels.
. Avoid use of eye make up like mascara and eye liner and if necessary, then clean eyes thoroughly Tablets of Vitamin A and C may prevent recurrence.
